Merdeka Week (23rd - 30th August)
To instill a sense of patriotism in the children, the Early Years Department planned and celebrated a National Week from 23/08/10 to 30/08/10.
The children practiced buying and selling at the "shops" displaying Merdeka merchandise. Everyone was excited and eager to buy all the items on sale. However, the shoppers were taught to be mindful of their spending, that is buying within their means with the RM5 that they have brought to school. In this process of shopping, the children have learned how to make decisions on spending wisely.
On 25th August 2010, a flag-making contest was carried out for the Nursery children while the Juniors had great fun in drawing and creating a Merdeka scene.
On 30th August 2010, the Preschoolers will battle it out in the Merdeka Quiz. This is their very first participation of a formal quiz held in the school hall and this experience would be a memorable one for them. Besides the quiz, each class will perform a song or dance, 1Malaysia style at the school hall. More news on this event will be reported in our next issue of the Newsletter.
Outing to the Fire Station ( 19th August 2010, Thursday)
The children eagerly donned their hand crafted fire safety hats for this trip. For those who did not have their own hats were compensated for by being able to wear real firemen's helmets at the fire station.
The trip was truly worth waiting for judging by the happy animated look in the children's faces! The firemen were able to conduct the many activities systematically and efficiently to allow every child to participate with a hands-on approach. A sampling of the activities includes 'stop, drop and roll' which was thoroughly enjoyed by every child. The highlight of the visit was the terrific experience in the fire engine with its siren blaring! The children were reluctant to get down from the fire engine after that!
On hand was also the camera crew and a reporter from EduwebTV to film all the activities carried out by the firemen. A few children and Puan Maznah were interviewed by the team. Video clips of this educational trip is available in this website under the Voices section.
Photographs of this exciting trip as well as other school outings can also be viewed from our own website, http://www.srigarden.edu.my/Gallery/ViewAlbum_Public.aspx.
