The school is in the middle of all its Merdeka celebrations and as a 'man in a foreign land', it is very impressive every year to see the Malaysian flag patriotically displayed everywhere, and I am very much looking forward to seeing students in their national dress over the next week. However it does leave me with a problem - what is my national dress?

Buildings - the final concrete castings have been done, and the construction phase has largely finished. Now comes the time where the finishing's and cosmetic work is done.

In the academic block the new science laboratories are very nearly finished.

Enrolment

I have said over the last few months that I have been impressed by the very positive feedback from parents and their response to SGI. This weekend, we reached 600 students for SGI. This does mean that we are filling the available classrooms. Current enquiries about Years 9 and 10 have found that we are now putting potential students on wait lists as these year groups are full.

In January we will have roughly half the school in the National Curriculum and half the school in the International Curriculum. Other year groups are almost full, and I would like to remind parents that applications can be made at any time

Decisions about uniform, books, teachers and many other aspects of SGI are being made and will be communicated to SGI parents over the next few weeks.

IFF

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the fantastic success of the IFF, not only from a money raising point of view but also from a community collaboration stance. The event raised in the region of RM7000 for a school charity, with the remainder of the money going to the clubs and societies.

I would like to use this money for the school to become involved in a Malaysian children's charity, and if anyone would like to propose a charity, please let me know.

SG students in the news

In the past few months, our students have been 'captured' on film as part of a Ministry initiative called EduwebTV (www.eduwebtv.com). We have videos on this site featuring primary students at the interactive zoo, and most recently our Early Years students visiting a fire station. Please take a look at the site or the 'Voices' section of this web site.

Japanese visitors

Last weekend, we had a quick visit from the ex-principal of Hokuryo High school (who initiated the exchange) and some Japanese parents. They were able to meet teachers and students from the school who were involved in previous exchanges. The warmth of the reunion was plain for all to see and demonstrated the importance of these exchanges.
