Newsletter

Last week was a creative and colourful week in the Primary school with Thursdays "Hats off" parade. I really enjoyed seeing the students in their creations. Please see the photographs in the Primary section of the newsletter.

In Secondary, we have had exams and also trips. At the end of last week, we had another successful trip to Singapore to see Shakespeare organised by the English department. At the start of last week, we had the prefects on a leadership camp in Melaka. Please see the Secondary section of the newsletter for more details and photographs.

Open Week

Last week we had our first open week of 2012.

Many thanks to the parents of our ambassadors and the senior Art group for allowing them to take part of Saturday, it was a tremendous success.

As part of the open week, the primary year leaders had a very successful session where they demonstrated the new techniques, assessment methods, and changes that have been occurring in the Primary school. Parents were able to see students learning in different subjects and to ask questions about how we do things in the Primary school

On Saturday, we had our first session with Year 9 parents and students preparing them for the decisions that come with IGCSE courses.

Mock exams

As parents of Year 11 students will know, over the last few weeks, these students have been sitting their first 'mock' or 'trial' exams for IGCSE. This experience gives them and their teachers an idea of strengths and weaknesses, enabling the weaknesses to be addressed well before the actual exams. They will experience another set of mock exams in August, at about the same time as the entries are made for the November session.

IGSCE

Last week saw SGI mark another first.

This was the first time that we hosted our first Cambridge IGCSE exam sessions. All Year 11 students sat their first written examination paper in Malay, closely followed by a much smaller group doing Mandarin, at both First and Second language levels. Students had been well prepared by their teachers and enthusiastically engaged with the exam papers.

The results for these first exams will be published in August.

In October and November, we will host the remainder of the Year 11 subjects.
