Dear Parents / Guardians,
We are at the end of another very successful and busy year, and during this last week of the school year, we have been celebrating our successes. The Yearbook will be in circulation by now, and I hope that its pages bring back good memories and smiles for years to come.
On Tuesday, we were awarded with SKIPS 5 star certificates, from the Ministry of Education. These certificates reflect the quality of teaching, and administration processes that we use, and are a credit to the teachers and support staff at the school. This achievement is something that we are very proud of, and continues on from 2008, when we were first awarded the 5 stars. It shows the quality of support, process and achievement that the school has, and uses on a day to day basis.
In many ways this can be seen as a sad letter as it will be the last one in the name of Sri Garden International, or SGI, but this is not the end but a new beginning.
This letter gives you some important information for next year, including:
1. Change of school name
3. Academic calendar
4. TISKL uniform
5. Community support - Sahabat Support Centre
6. Typhoon victims in the Philippines
I wish everyone all the best for the holidays and I hope that it is a peaceful and relaxing break.
Everyone should now be aware that when the school opens in January, SGI will be rebranded to become the first Taylor's International School. We will become Taylor's International School, Kuala Lumpur (TISKL). Students in Sri Garden studying the National Curriculum will remain in SG.
This is a very exciting transformation for the school, and is the result of years of planning and preparation. In changing the school name, we will continue to move the learning experience in the international way. An important change, shown to parents earlier in the year, will be the school adopting student outcomes; these are a set of ideals that we aim to instil in our students. These student outcomes and other details of the TIS approach can be found at www.tis.edu.my You can also access our current SGI site through this link.
Some parents will also have noticed from the fee invoices, that the holding company for the school has also changed name. We are now operating under the company name of "Taylor's International School (KL) Sdn Bhd". School fees for TISKL should now be paid to this company name.
Students still in Sri Garden can carry on using "Sekolah Sri Garden Sdn Bhd"
I would like to thank the whole school community of students, teachers, support staff and of course parents for the manner in which the renovations have been accommodated during the last few months. The work is still on schedule to finish at the end of December, in time for the new school year. You can now see what the roof will look like, with the link bridge between the buildings, the two new lifts are being installed, and the trees have been planted. The work to be completed now involves the flooring for the whole courtyard area, and the roof structures at the front of the school.

There are photographs of the new uniform on the newsletter section of the website. The new school uniform will be available in the bookshop from the 2nd December.
An additional item that we are selling next year, is a hooded top. This top will now replace all the sweatshirts and hooded tops that students are currently wearing. From January 2014, students can only wear the school top and not their choice of top.
SAHABAT SUPPORT CENTRE
During the last few years at Sri Garden, we have been promoting community support. The Sahabat Support Centre is based in Ampang and provides support for refugees in KL.
They have a school, and have asked us if we can help them with any old or unused reading books, text books, or stationery from our students. We will set up some boxes near the bookshop for students and parents to place and books that will not be used next year, and also any used or unused pens, pencils, coloured pencils, rulers. New items will be gratefully received too.
Small contributions will make an enormous difference to this volunteer operated school.
When you come in to purchase books for next year, please think about others that could use your child's old books, or pens, pencils.
For anyone interested in more detail please go to www.msri.org.my . you will find opportunities to volunteer in the centre, to sponsor children's schooling, or to sponsor food packages for the needy.
TYPHOON VICTIMS IN THE PHILLIPINES
One of our parents has contacted me to suggest that since the SGI uniforms will not be used from January, parents could donate these to the emergency relief for the Philippines. We will arrange for boxes to be placed near the bookshop. We would like to encourage parents to donate clean old uniforms and the school will make arrangements through the relief agencies to send them to the Philippines. Thank you in advance for your support to people in need.
Thank you to all the students who paid to come in their own dollars on Thursday and Friday to raise money for the UNICEF relief fund. We can all help in our own small way to support those affected by this tragedy.
